Representations of the Falkland Islands in Germany

The Falkland Islands are administered by Great Britain, so they do not have their own diplomatic missions, but rather from the British embassies and consulates.

The present British embassy building was built on the site of the old British embassy, which was damaged by bombs during the war and completely destroyed by fire after the war. The remains were later removed by the GDR authorities, and the property was fallow until 1998. The plans for today’s embassy building come from the architecture firm Michael Wilford & Partners, London and Stuttgart, which had previously won a competition. The embassy was then officially inaugurated on July 18, 2000 by Queen Elizabeth II. The building is located at the beginning of Wilhelmstrasse in the immediate vicinity of the Brandenburg Gate. This part of the street is closed to motor vehicle traffic for safety reasons.

There are no foreign currency restrictions.

Import and export of goods The import and export of weapons, ammunition or explosives is strictly prohibited. In addition, the import and export of plants and animals protected under the Washington Species Protection Act is prohibited. Violation can result in severe penalties.

Entry with pets

For the owners of dogs and other animals, when traveling abroad, the question arises whether they can even take their animals with them to the chosen travel destination, and if that is possible, then of course the question of the respective applicable conditions arises. Here with us you will find all the important information on this topic, seriously researched at the embassies or the Foreign Office:

The same regulations apply to the importation of pets into the Falkland Islands as to the entry into Argentina. Pets to be imported into Argentina (Falkland Islands) must be vaccinated against rabies. This rabies vaccination must be certified by an official veterinarian and must not be more than twelve months ago. Pets that are younger than three months are exempt from the rabies vaccination.

In addition, a health certificate and a vaccination certificate must be issued by the veterinarian for each animal. All certificates and documents must be certified by the Argentine consulate prior to entry.

Please note that the airline must inform the airport there of the animal transport 24 hours before arrival at the destination.

Who pays for vaccinations in Germany?

Most children in Germany are vaccinated against a number of infectious diseases at an early age. However, the vaccination protection only lasts up to 10 years, in some cases even shorter. Therefore, before traveling abroad, you should carefully consider against which infectious diseases a vaccination is necessary or useful in the country concerned and whether the vaccination protection, if applicable, was not too long ago.

Most statutory health insurances have been reimbursing the costs for the following vaccinations since June 2007.

There is even no 10 € practice fee – but the insured usually have to pay the statutory additional payment, which is 10% of the vaccine price – that is at least 5 € and a maximum of 10 €. Under these conditions, the following vaccinations are free of charge:

  • cholera
  • diphtheria
  • Early summer meningoencephalitis (TBE)
  • Yellow fever
  • Hepatitis A and B
  • Meningococcal meningitis
  • Pneumococci
  • Polyo (polio)
  • Tetanus (tetanus)
  • rabies
  • typhus

Some health insurance companies also reimburse the cost of malaria prophylaxis.

As a rule, private health insurance companies (inquire beforehand) also cover the costs mentioned.
