Formalities, visas

A visa for Vietnam must be applied for before the start of the journey. As a rule, a visa is issued for a period of one month. The passport must be valid for another month for the intended period of departure. For a fee of 25 US dollars, you can also get a visa upon arrival at the airport.

Import and export of foreign currency

goods

The import and export of weapons, ammunition or explosives is strictly prohibited. In addition, the import and export of plants and animals protected under the Washington Species Protection Act is prohibited. Violation can result in severe penalties. Duty-

Infectious Diseases

In Vietnam, the following infectious diseases, which are not or less widespread in Germany or Central and Northern Europe, are to be expected:

  • Malaria: There is a year-round risk of malaria in the country. There is no risk of malaria in the major cities, in the Red River Delta and in the coastal areas of the central parts of the country north of Nha Trang. About 70% of the infections occur with the dangerous malaria tropica, the rest with malaria tertiana

Recommended vaccinations

when traveling to Vietnam, the following vaccinations recommended:

  • Diphtheria – a vaccination against diphtheria should always exist, also in the home country.
  • Hepatitis A and B
  • Japan encephalitis
  • Polio, polio – vaccination against polio should always exist, also in the home country.
  • Tetanus, a vaccination against tetanus should always exist in the home country
  • Typhoid – but only for travelers who can come into contact with polluted water or contaminated food.

Vaccination regulations

For all persons older than one year and coming from a yellow fever infection area designated by the WHO, there is a compulsory vaccination against an illness with yellow fever.

The national currency of Vietnam is the Vietnamese dong (VND).

Cheap or country-specific goods, souvenirs

Typical souvenirs include traditional ceramics and woodcuts. Other souvenirs are lacquer work (small wooden containers that are covered with a multitude of layers of lacquer), woven hats that can be worn against the sun and as rain protection, as well as silk fabrics and clothing. Moderate trading is allowed when buying.

Representations of Vietnam in Germany

The building of the Embassy of Vietnam is in the busy Elsenstraße in the Berlin district of Treptow-Köpenik. The embassy building is a representative looking villa. The parking situation in the vicinity of the embassy is extremely bad, as the available spaces are usually all occupied. It is therefore advisable to use public transport or a taxi. Opposite the embassy (approx. 100 m) is the “Treptower Park” S-Bahn station.
